Guangdong's deepening ties with ASEAN, its largest trading partner
Update: 2025-06-10     Source: GDToday

On June 10, an exchange conference to promote China (Guangdong)-ASEAN trade and supply chain cooperation will be held in Guangzhou, aiming to build a platform for dialogue and business matching.

Guangdong Sub-Administration of the GACC statistics revealed that ASEAN has been Guangdong's main trading partner for years. In 2024, Guangdong's annual foreign trade import and export volume exceeded 9 trillion yuan for the first time, making ASEAN Guangdong's largest trading partner. ASEAN is not only China's top export destination but also the largest overseas market for Guangdong-made products.

Malaysian durians, Thai mangosteens, and Vietnamese passion fruit are reaching millions of homes across the Greater Bay Area. At the same time, EVs from Guangdong are cruising through the streets of Thailand, while solar energy projects take root in Vietnam.

According to customs data, Guangdong's trade with ASEAN remained robust in the first four months of 2025. From January to April, total imports and exports between Guangdong and ASEAN reached 488.57 billion yuan, marking a 7.5% year-on-year increase and accounting for 16.5% of the province's total foreign trade.

During this period, Guangdong exported 174.3 billion yuan worth of mechanical and electrical products to ASEAN, with a 24.5% year-on-year increase, representing 61.4% of its total exports. Notably high-growth segments included EVs, photovoltaic products, and automatic data processing equipment.

Among Guangdong's top five individual ASEAN trading partners from January to April 2025 are Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Singapore.
