The timetable of the last train during the renovation:
The renovation project will take about 16 days from March to April, and the specific dates are circled out in the following calendars:
The signaling and overhead line equipment will mainly be upgraded during this time.
Starting from February 26th, Guangzhou Metro will make the announcement time and again through the radio broadcast, placards, electronic service guide, TV, and official social media to inform passengers, so that they can make plans early.
Residents should be aware of the adjustment when taking metro, especially for those who need to transfer to other lines via Metro Line 1. Otherwise, other means of transportation may be an alternative.
Here are the whys and wherefores:
1. Why cut the operation time?
Signaling and overhead line equipment are important systems to metros. The routine night-time maintenance is not enough for the renovation this time given the complexity and difficulty of the project.
After several rounds of research, evaluation, planning and deployment, it has finally been decided to cut the operation time based on the passenger flow, time schedule, technical feasibility, and the overhaul cases of key metro equipment at home and abroad.
2. Why choose the weekends and holidays instead of finishing the project in 16 days consecutively?
According to the metro data, the passenger flow of Metro Line 1 on weekends and holidays after 10 pm only accounts for 5% of the day over the past few year.
Thus, this time arrangement is the best to start the renovation project while maintain daily operation
3. Why is Metro Line 1 to be renovated?
The first section of Metro Line 1, from Xilang to Huangsha, opened on June 28th, 1997. While receiving passengers about 18 hours a day, Line 1 has been in operation for nearly 25 years so far.
Most of its system equipment needs a major overhaul. Some components and parts of the signaling and overhead lines are no longer produced.
So, it is urgent to replace them in order to enhance the equipment operation quality and meet the passengers' growing demands for efficient transportation services.
If you have any other questions, you can consult the metro staff on the spot or call the service hotline 96891.
