With the completion of the bottom of Huoju Station (火炬站), the deepest station of the Nansha-Zhuhai (Zhongshan) Intercity Railway on August 9, the project is showing signs of smooth progress.
The railway starts from Wanqingsha Station (萬(wàn)頃沙站) in Nansha district of Guangzhou and ends at Xingzhong Station (興中站) in Zhongshan city. It will have a total length of 47.6 kilometers, including 19.1 kilometers in Guangzhou and 28.5 kilometers in Zhongshan, with a design speed of 160 kilometers per hour.
When completed, it will connect to Guangzhou Metro Line 18, reducing the travel time from downtown Guangzhou to downtown Zhongshan to 45 minutes.
To date, the civil engineering work for the Guangzhou section has reached 44 percent completion, with construction underway for three stations and three sections. And the civil engineering work for the Zhongshan section has reached 16 percent completion, with seven stations under construction.
