Guangdong witnesses boost in cross-border e-commerce
Update:2024-03-21    Source: GDToday

In recent years, Guangdong has made great efforts to push forward its cross-border e-commerce industry, such as issuing preferential policies, setting up related industrial clusters and offering specific services to facilitate enterprises to explore global market. Up to now, the province has saw fruitful achievements in this new business mode.

In 2023, Guangdong's cross-border e-commerce imports and exports reached 843.3 billion yuan, an increase of 25%, accounting for more than 10% of the province's foreign trade. According to the Guangzhou cross-border e-commerce public service platform, in the first two months of this year, Guangzhou's cross-border e-commerce volume reached 22.287 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 44.47%.

Guangdong has built three global e-commerce centers in Guangzhou to offer supply chain services, global services and business innovation services to provide one-stop services for the local cross-border e-commerce sellers' brands to go overseas.

These centers bring a lot of benefits to cross-border e-commerce enterprises. "Last year we handled more than 80 million cross-border e-commerce parcels, an increase of 30% year-on-year," said Zheng Haibin, deputy general manager of Guangzhou Haicheng International Freight Forwarding Co., Ltd.."Through the three centers, we can better utilize the resources of many existing developed overseas warehouses to quickly respond to customers' demands and provide high-quality services," he added.

"I am optimistic about the high-quality industrial belts in Guangzhou and the the atmosphere of cross-border e-commerce in Guangzhou," said Chen Gang, president of Cantontrades, a Guangzhou-based service provider for foreign trade enterprises. The company has built an online platform for the export of Guangdong-made products, where it helps cross-border e-commerce sellers solve the difficulties in product selection.

"At present, we have set up overseas supply chain centers in countries such as the United States. Especially in terms of overseas warehouses, we have covered eight countries, mainly to provide related enabling services for our small sellers and some overseas and domestic enterprises," Chen explained.

In addition, recently, Guangzhou also introduced an array of new policies and measures to further promote the high-quality development of cross-border e-commerce, such as the 16-measures on the incubation of cross-border e-commerce enterprises and the construction of related industrial parks.

"These years we have issued ten measures to support the development of cross-border e-commerce. Last year we introduced another '11 Articles' regulation for overseas warehouses," said Zhang Jinsong, director-general of the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province. "This year we are also prepared to issue new supportive policies in time according to the new development of cross-border e-commerce and the requirements of the new situation, and further optimize and improve them in a targeted manner, so as to further make the policy instructions more accurate, more in place, and more effective," he added.
