Nansha District of Guangzhou aims to strengthen its role in China's marine economy with five key development priorities during the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) period, local officials said on November 18.
Speaking at the "New Prospects for the Ocean Economy" forum, part of the 20th China Economic Forum, Wang Wei, Deputy Director of the Administrative Committee of the Nansha Development Zone of Guangzhou Municipality, stated that the district's marine output reached 47.3 billion yuan in 2024, accounting for over 20% of its GDP. He described the sector as a "blue engine" driving high-quality growth.
Located in the center of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Nansha has long served as Guangzhou's gateway to the sea.
Looking ahead, Nansha will place a greater focus on innovation, including new marine technology and unmanned systems. It will also improve integration between ports, industry, and urban development while upgrading modern port-related industries such as shipbuilding and marine engineering.
Nansha also plans to enhance ecological protection by improving coastal parks and public spaces and to deepen cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao to build a more open and international maritime hub.
