Guangzhou to build major cultural tourism resort with ¥4b investment
Update:2025-09-30    Source: South

The Grandview Maofeng Bay International Cultural Tourism Resort in Suifeng Village, Taihe Town, Baiyun District, Guangzhou, began construction on September 27, 2025.

The site lies at the southeastern foot of Maofeng Mountain, a national 4A-level tourist attraction and provincial forest park. The project represents a total investment of about four billion yuan and will cover more than 562 mu (approx. 37.5 hectares).

The resort aims to become a world-class cultural landmark centered on Chinese civilization, expressed through diverse performances. It will highlight the five defining characteristics of Chinese civilization—continuity, innovation, unity, inclusiveness, and peace—presenting them through a vivid and accessible historical narrative to help the public better understand China's history and culture.

The development will be built around six themes: Chinese cultural heritage, Lingnan local traditions, revolutionary spirit, popular science education, ecological values, and leisure tourism.

In terms of facilities, the resort will feature nine themed pavilions, two themed hotels, and 20 museums, including an experiential museum for the visually impaired, along with more than 81 outdoor attractions. Planned highlights include a China cultural palace museum, an aerospace sci-tech museum, a dolphin bay, an ice and snow world, a grand theater, a water park, a national botanical garden, a mini safari park, and a water-town themed commercial street.

The China Cultural Palace Museum will serve as the project's centerpiece. With a gross floor area of 50,000 square meters, it will be designed as an immersive and innovative museum structured around the themes of "Beautiful China, What Made China, Revitalizing China, Understanding China, and China's Future." The museum will showcase major archaeological discoveries from the past century and bring to life cultural heritage sites such as the Peking Man Site at Zhoukoudian, the Mogao Caves at Dunhuang, the 17-meter-high Yungang Buddha, and the Wooden Pagoda of Yingxian County.

The resort will complement Grandview Mall in downtown Guangzhou, creating a "dual-core" tourism model that combines urban cultural experiences with immersive countryside retreats. Visitors will be able to explore nature and culture in the city center and then experience 5,000 years of Chinese civilization in Maofeng Bay.

The project is expected to attract more than 10 million domestic and international visitors annually, generate over one billion yuan in yearly revenue, create 20,000 jobs for Baiyun District, and drive nearly 10 billion yuan in regional economic output.
